About Tabernacle UMC
A church rooted in faith, built on community, and open to all.
Our History
Tabernacle United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone of the Virginia Beach community for generations. Founded on the principles of Wesleyan faith, our congregation has grown from a small gathering of believers into a vibrant church family.
Through the decades, Tabernacle UMC has weathered change and growth while remaining anchored to its founding mission: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our historic building and grounds stand as a testament to the faithfulness of those who came before us.
Today we carry that legacy forward — welcoming new faces, nurturing long-time members, and serving our neighbors in Virginia Beach with the same spirit of love and grace that has always defined this congregation.
Our Mission
“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
Everything we do at Tabernacle UMC flows from this calling. We worship together, study Scripture, serve our community, and support one another — all in pursuit of a deeper relationship with God and a more just and loving world.
What We Believe
Scripture
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the primary source of authority for Christian faith and practice.
Grace
We believe in the prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying grace of God — available to all people through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Trinity
We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three persons in perfect unity.
Salvation
We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ, all people can be forgiven, restored, and transformed by God's love.
Community
We believe the church is called to be a community of love, service, and witness — reflecting the kingdom of God in the world.
Service
We believe Christians are called to serve others, pursue justice, and care for the least and the lost as an expression of our faith.
Our Core Values
Welcoming
Every person who walks through our doors is welcomed as a child of God.
Worshipful
We gather to praise God with our whole hearts, voices, and lives.
Word-centered
Scripture guides our preaching, teaching, and daily walk with Christ.
Serving
We are called to serve our neighbors and our world in the name of Jesus.
